Social media behemoth Meta (formerly Facebook) has announced that the company is beginning its international expansion of NFT support on Instagram. This expansion comes after Instagram had a successful NFT test launch with a handful of creators in May of this year. Instagram supports the Ethereum, Polygon and Flow blockchains at this time along with several third-party wallets including MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet, and soon Dapper Wallet.

Of Meta's many products, NFT support is only available on Instagram but we could see a cross-platform expansion as Meta product manager Navdeep Singh said that testing was also underway on Facebook. Other social media sites have also been jockeying to get in on the NFT craze, with Twitter adding support for verified Ethereum NFT profile pictures and Reddit launching a marketplace for NFT avatars.

Instagram will be taking NFTs beyond your screen and into the real world by allowing users to share their digital collectibles as AR stickers on Instagram Stories. It's probably only a matter of time until digital assets make their way into Meta's Oculus Rift powered metaverse given Mark Zuckerberg's bullishness on metaverses, digital currency, and NFTs.
